Spherivcy

"Spherivacy" examines the interplay of art, technology and privacy.

Inspired by Jon Rafman and Doug Rickard, it highlights the pervasive nature of surveillance. Using Google Earth’s Photo Sphere feature to virtually wander New York City - photography dream destination - to capture moments that feel like street photography.

Instead of using screenshots, I literally took photos of my computer screen. Photographing these images like a street photographer would in real life. This approach blurs the line between what’s public and private and who’s responsible for protecting people’s faces and details that show up without their knowledge. The film-like aesthetic embraces imperfections like glitches from the sphere image, low quality and weird angles reflecting how unpredictable digital documentation can be.

Spherivacy challenges us to think - When does a photo become surveillance and who’s responsible for the people inside it?
